During the entirety of third year of residency, while I wrestled with my future in medicine, this book here sat on my coffee table. Each morning, after a stretch, walk, and coffee, I read one page of this book. When I finished it, I turned right back to the beginning and began again. It infused clarity and awakeness in the days I needed it most.
The author, Pema Chodron, is an American buddhist monk offering 108 teachings on anything from fearlessness to lightening up. Here’s a passage:
“In order to go deeper, there has to be whole-hearted commitment. You begin the warrior’s journey when you choose one path and stick to it. Then you let it put you through your changes.”
Godspeed.
