I’m Ryan Fightmaster, M.D., a freelance writer of essays and memoir, a former practicing psychiatrist, and a really average surfer, which, given I spent the first 29 years of my life land-locked, I consider my greatest accomplishment. I’ve published a book, 32 Lessons from 8 Years Lost in Medicine, and written hundreds of essays about my experience of quitting medicine to figure out what I wanted from life. I learned to surf while living in Southern California, learned to love cats while living in Asheville, North Carolina, and now, I’m back home with my wife and calico in Oklahoma City, where I’ve always known how to dodge a tornado.
