In 2022, I quit my job as a physician to go find out what I really wanted to do with my life. In the three years since, I’ve been unimaginably happy, made ecstatic by a boundless life force I can barely contain. Ha! I wish!
Fortunately, I found writing. Unfortunately, writing is harder than medical school. The failures harder than psychiatry residency. But throughout this career change and early-mid-life crisis, inside the pursuit of work that I love doing, I’ve found something I never had in medicine: peace. I’m doing what I’m supposed to be doing. I’m trying. And when the curtain comes down, I won’t bow out with regrets.
Everything I write (mostly on Substack) is designed to encourage you to go for it, to bet on that ounce of knowing inside your heart that’s begging you to be who you are and commit to your dream. Because I promise you this:
It’ll be worth it.
In addition to writing, I own a modestly successful furniture refinishing company, opening first in Santa Barbara, California, then continuing for two years in Asheville, North Carolina, and now forging on in Oklahoma City. If you like watching furniture restoration videos, I got you covered, here.
More about me
I’m an author, furniture refinisher, former psychiatrist, and pretty average surfer. I’ve published a book, 32 Lessons from 8 Years Lost in Medicine, and written hundreds of guides to successful career change on this website and my YouTube channel. I learned to surf while living in Southern California and learned to love cats while living in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. Now, I’m back home in Oklahoma City with my wife and our calico cat, where I own and operate Fight Furniture.
